Garbage Pickup
Curbside Pickup: Mondays & Thursdays
No holiday garbage pickup on May 26, September 1, November 27 and December 25.
Mondays - Regular Household garbage. Curbside pickup only.
Thursdays - Junk (furniture, household items, etc.), as well as regular household garbage. Curbside pickup only.
Please call Miele Sanitation at 201-768-3818 to schedule an appointment pick large appliances, household equipment, screens, refrigerators, air conditioners and ice makers with freon removed beforehand by a certified service person. (If you are buying a new appliance, check with the merchant whether he would remove and dispose of your old appliance.) After completing the mowing of your lawn, please put grass clipping in a garbage can and not in a plastic bags.
Recycling Pickup
1st & 3rd Wednesdays : Curbside pickup in reusable containers of co-mingled glass, aluminum, tin and steel cans and plastic containers. Receptacles containing the following items WILL NOT be picked up: aluminum foil, plastic other than 1 & 2, waxed milk and juice containers, ceramics, window glass and plastic bags. NOT RECYCLABLE Clean plastic bags may be placed in containers at Stop & Shop, A&P, Kings, and Shop Rite.
2nd & 4th Wednesdays : Curbside pickup of newsprint, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, office and computer paper, paper bags, telephone books, cardboard and cereal type boxes tied in bundles not to exceed 12" or placed in brown paper bags. Corrugated boxes are recyclable; do not put out for garbage as they will not be taken.
Thursdays - By prior appointment only (call 201 768-5407): large appliances, household equipment, screens; refrigerators, air conditioners and ice makers with freon removed by a certified service person. There are no recycling pickups on the fifth wednesday of the month.Mondays - GRASS COLLECTION - Starting April 7 through October 31, grass will be picked up curbside when placed in UNCOVERED REUSABLE 30 GALLON CONTAINERS. Grass in bags WILL NOT be picked up.
Leaf Pick-Up
Leaf pick up begins October 15th and ends the week of December 3rd. All leaves must be spread out close to the curb, but not within 10 feet of any storm drains. Leaf piles must be kept free of twigs, branches, stones and grass or they will not be picked up!
After December 10th and until April 15th, leaves are to be bagged for pick up.
REMEMBER DO NOT PUT LEAVES OUT BEFORE OCTOBER 15TH. Branch chipping ends the week of October 1st and resumes the week of December 17th.
Other Recycling Information
BRANCHES & LIMBS - Materials must be less than 6' long and 60 lbs, for pickup by the DPW. Branches must be placed curbside, not in the street, in neat piles, all facing the same way. Wood chips & mulch are available at Wakelee Field beyond the bridge.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE - Bergen County Sponsers three collection dates each year at Bergen Community College. The program is available free of charge to Bergen County residents and provides an outlet for proper disposal of household hazardous waste.

What Is Happening?
Your TV signal is switching to digital. For more than fifty years, TV broadcasters have sent their shows to your TV using analog signals. After February 17, 2009, most of the old analog stations will be gone and most of the stations you watch will be gone and most of the stations you watch will use only the new digital signals.
Don't miss the Demarest Gazebo Concerts this summer, every Wednesday night by the duckpond! Shows start at 7:30, so bring a lawnchair and a snack, and enjoy a great evening with music and friends. Concerts are free, all are welcome.
Congressman Garrett's Constituent Services
Congressman Garrett's Mobile Constituent Services staff will be available on the last Tuesday of each month from 9:30am-11:30am at the Demarest Borough Hall. Residents are encouraged to bring their questions and concerns with federal issues to the CongressmanŐs attention. A representative from his office will be present to answer questions or respond to any inquires. Topics include international adoption, Social Security, transportation, housing, health care and other questions. No appointments are necessary.
